{"id":300,"date":"2012-01-24T12:57:11","date_gmt":"2012-01-24T16:57:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.inquirium.net\/inqscribe\/?p=300"},"modified":"2012-01-24T12:57:11","modified_gmt":"2012-01-24T16:57:11","slug":"keyboard-shortcuts-for-film-editors","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.inquirium.net\/inqscribe\/2012\/01\/24\/keyboard-shortcuts-for-film-editors\/","title":{"rendered":"Keyboard Shortcuts for Film Editors"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>One of our customers, a professor at a film school, suggested this tip:<\/p>\n<p>For those of you used to using industry standard editting software like Final Cut and Avid, you can map &#8220;j&#8221;, &#8220;k&#8221;, and &#8220;l&#8221; with modifier keys to back\/pause\/forward. \u00a0Since you need the j\/k\/l keys for actually inputting text during transcription, you&#8217;ll need to use modifier keys (Ctrl, Command, etc.).<\/p>\n<p>On the M<strong>ac<\/strong> you would use the &#8220;Command&#8221; and &#8220;Option&#8221; keys to set up something like this:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Command-j =&gt; Play Backwards\u00a0at Custom Rate 1.x<\/li>\n<li>Command-Option-j =&gt; Play Backwards at Custom Rate 2.0x<\/li>\n<li>Command-k =&gt; Pause<\/li>\n<li>Command-l =&gt; Play at Custom Rate 1.x<\/li>\n<li>Command-Option-l =&gt; Play at Custom Rate 2.0x<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In <strong>Windows<\/strong>\u00a0you would use the &#8220;Ctrl&#8221; and &#8220;Shift&#8221; keys to set up something like this:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Ctrl-j =&gt; Play Backwards\u00a0at Custom Rate 1.x<\/li>\n<li>Ctrl-Shift-j =&gt; Play Backwards\u00a0at Custom Rate 2.0x<\/li>\n<li>Ctrl-k =&gt; Pause<\/li>\n<li>Ctrl-l =&gt; Play at Custom Rate 1.x<\/li>\n<li>Ctrl-Shift-l =&gt; Play at Custom Rate 2.0x<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>You can obviously tweak these to suit your workflow.<\/p>\n<p>Note that by setting Command-l\/Ctrl-l to &#8220;Play at Custom Rate 1.x&#8221; you can toggle back and forth between the fast speed and the slow speed. \u00a0If you set it to &#8220;Play&#8221; instead, hitting Command-l\/Ctrl-l would only continue playing at the current play rate. \u00a0So if you&#8217;re already at 2.x, the play rate won&#8217;t change.<\/p>\n<p>An alternative approach would be to set Command-Option-l\/Ctrl-Shift-l to &#8220;Change Play Rate&#8221; by 1.x. \u00a0Then every time you hit\u00a0Command-Option-l\/Ctrl-Shift-l the play rate would increase to 2.x, 3.x, etc.. \u00a0And you can hit\u00a0Command-l\/Ctrl-l to get back to the 1.x rate. \u00a0This would more emulate the behavior of FCP.<\/p>\n<p>For instructions on how to set up shortcuts:\u00a0<a title=\"http:\/\/www.inqscribe.com\/docs\/keyboardshortcuts.html\" href=\"http:\/\/www.inqscribe.com\/docs\/keyboardshortcuts.html\">http:\/\/www.inqscribe.com\/docs\/keyboardshortcuts.html<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Comments are turned off in this blog, but head on over to our Facebook page for to leave comments:\u00a0<a title=\"http:\/\/www.facebook.com\/InqScribe\" href=\"http:\/\/www.facebook.com\/InqScribe\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">http:\/\/www.facebook.com\/InqScribe<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"One of our customers, a professor at a film school, suggested this tip: For those of you used&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":4,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":[],"categories":[8,11],"tags":[32,52,81,82,85,86,87,97,124,147,154,161,188],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/blogs.inquirium.net\/inqscribe\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/300"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/blogs.inquirium.net\/inqscribe\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/blogs.inquirium.net\/inqscribe\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/blogs.inquirium.net\/inqscribe\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/4"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/blogs.inquirium.net\/inqscribe\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=300"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/blogs.inquirium.net\/inqscribe\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/300\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/blogs.inquirium.net\/inqscribe\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=300"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/blogs.inquirium.net\/inqscribe\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=300"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/blogs.inquirium.net\/inqscribe\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=300"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
